Meanwhile back at the ranch

Texas Tech muckety mucks and our politicians are 'fighting' for Texas Tech to get to Tier 1 status. This amuses me a great deal, as some of you know.

Texas Tech is never going to get tier 1, at least not from any outstanding effort done by the State of Texas.

We went through this charade back a couple of years ago. California has 9 Tier 1 schools. Texas has 2 (A&M and UT), both of which are funded by the Permanent University Fund. Blah Blah Blah.

The charade works like this.

Step 1: talk up in media possible Tier 1 status for schools like UH, UT-Dallas, North Texas, etc. etc.

Step 2: Never let them have the adequate funding.

Result: Muckety Mucks from different schools get some good local publicity for fighting the good fight.

The reason we go through the charade is too keep the two obese systems from having to possibly be questioned in the manner in which it dispenses it's funding. The PUF has never been up for discussion, but their is 9 billion in it last time I checked, and that was after some setbacks.

Why am I the only one that gets it?

Moral hazard

Ok folks, I have been studying this here economic meltdown with my tier 3 edumuhcashun, and I think I have ciphered out a few things.

People will do dishonest things to make a buck if there is little or no oversight, or if the oversight is in on the fix. I equate this to Big 12 referees giving Texas calls in football games. We all know its going on, and despite the obvious being pointed out time after time, it keeps happening. Big 12 referees ought to apply for jobs with the SEC. Not the Conference but the Securities Exchange Commission.

See what I did here?

Today, I had a customer write a check from the bank that has the wagon train on their logo. They suck rhinoceros ass, by the way. Well today, they made me wait 30 minutes to cash a check until I spoke with a "Personal Banker". The banker was a bitch. I asked, "why are you guys doing this?" She said, "we must do it to get more accounts on the books. It's just what we do." I said, "hmmm, does pissing people off work?"

She cashed the check.

No Jack Dale on Sportsline. He is in the hospital but he is expected to make a full recovery. They said the wind was coming but just said it would be 25 miles an hour. Rush said that we need to stop the Democrats in their tracks. Hannity said the Democrats were screwing up the country. The gold medal guy smokes weed and baseball players take steroids and you can get a wide variety of pecker stimulants if you'll call an 800 number.

OU loses another recruit to Texas Tech

Hahahahaha! I think the word is out about Bob. If you want your kids to play football and get an education. You better think twice about Oklahoma. OU currently has the lowest graduation rate in the Big 12 Conference.

This one is something called a Middle Linebacker.

Rivals.com reported Sunday afternoon that linebacker Brandon Mahoney of Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas, has decommitted from Oklahoma and has given a verbal commitment to Texas Tech. It's the third Sooner decommitment in less than month to a Big 12 South school, and the second who switched to Texas Tech. Mahoney visited Texas A&M last week. Previously, Darius Jones, an athlete/defensive back from Marshall, Texas, switched his commitment from OU to Baylor, and Eric Ward, a wide receiver from Wichita Falls, Texas, changed his pledge to Texas Tech. OU now has 22 verbal commitments in the 2009 class. Prospects are allowed to give non-binding verbal commitments to any school until they've signed a letter of intent. National signing day is Wednesday.

We also got two more commitments on Sunday. By my count, that means Tech only has 2 or so schoolies left. Mike Leach always has grey shirts. Also, this is the first recruiting class in school history with 4 blue chippers. I believe our previous high was 2. Then there is still two blue chippers left to decide, both being WR's.

It looks like that trend is over of Tech losing out on blue chippers just before signing day. I will call it dead if we land Mr. Kraig Appleton. We already flipped Eric Ward from OU, and he is already taking classes.
