Come and Take it.

We aren't quite there yet. If Santa Anna could do it to his own country by violating the Constitution of 1824, then Bush most certainly did it last week.

Open Letter to the Locksteppers (you are long rid of the great label of Conservative) and the Democrats that sold out:

You wanted your War. You got it. Too bad for those that have died. What a shame. Might be okay if you could fight a war. But its hard for chickenhawks to shed their feathers. Stay the course!

You wanted your Patriot Act. You got that too. Great. I'm not safe in my own country from retribution by speaking out against the government, and neither are you. Are we at red or pink today?

If suspense of Habeas Corpus is needed to protect us from "terrorists", then let's protect our government from its own citizens next. Oh wait, no need to do that. They are too busy working 5 shifts at Wal Mart to give a damn. Why dont we just rid ourselves of the court system while we are at it. With all that loose money we can build some more prisons. There damn sure wont be any torture going on. Listening to ex-attorneys turned prison gaurds will be cruel and unusual enough.

What will you ever do with those "domestic terrorists"? Of course, let's disarm them! But how will you do that? After all those guys are pretty resiliant having survived 9-11, bird flu, mad cow disease, Ford Pintos, Fire Ant invasions, high gas prices, Waco, and the O.J. Simpson trial.

Sorry about the ADD moment, but are you guys huffing paint everyday before work? Where in the hell is your sense of history. If the Patriot Act is unpatriotic, then the Military Commisions Act makes patriotism a crime. The crime is without due process, cause, or hope of fair trial. To hell with the terrorists. Since when is it American to reject the very ideals that made America. If we cant treat our enemies with the same rights and laws due our citizens, then what is superior?

We will live to regret this President and Congress. One day in the near future an absolute lunatic will reign real terror on us, and we will be basically powerless to stop it. You can call it what you like, and I'm sure never stop to think of the other side. But, if it smells like a dictatorship, looks like totalitarianism, and walks like imperialism. I call it Fascism.

Come and take it!

you're officially off your rocker, olberman, jr. your rant is nowhere near the truth. rather, it's near the land of lock-step kool-aid drinkers. quit taking others' rants (olberman's) as truth. your script has been played before.

Yes it has.

America in 1776.

Texas in 1836.

Rome failed when it ceased to be a Republic.

Dictatorships are bad. I like Tropical Punch, by the way.

Kingfish: 'please allow foreign terrorists the right to walk into our country without permission, take advantage of our laws (and lack thereof), and want a Constitution that they hate protect them.'

Sounds like the fear mongering is working on you.

You know we have and HAD laws that weren't adequately enforced. If you think we can stop it then great. Let me know when we can stop drugs, illegal immigrants, and terrorists from getting in the country.

Let me know when you're willing to punish those who want to kill you, me, the Constitution, and this country. it seems as though you would rather have them protected by our laws so they can destroy us:

"If we cant treat our enemies with the same rights and laws due our citizens..."

We have international laws that do not apply to terrorists. Now we have a new Act that does. but I guess you don't want them punished unless they have your American rights.

Our defuct laws, while not convenient, nevertheless were adequet at punishing enemies. This law WILL allow torture. You think that knowledge is going to deture terrorism? I think the fact that we have now stooped to that level makes us no better than the terrorists we wish to stop.

Just wait, the other shoe will fall.

in fact, it does not allow torture.
"a statement obtained by use of torture shall not be admissible"

treatment shall not be "cruel, inhuman, or degrading"

prohibited conduct: torture 6(d)(1)(A)

see Detainee Treatment Act of 2005

bottom line:
the Military Commissions Act isn't the devil you've been told it is.

The President can interpret the "meaning and application". That is in reference to prisoner treatment. What it says and what he can do are two things.

the president has the authority to "interpret the meaning and application of the Geneva COnventions [that do not apply to terrorists] and to promulgate higher standards" that do not violate the Geneva Conventions nor take away the "functions and responsibilities" of the other branches.
Again, the Military Commissions Act isn't the devil you've been told it is. Now you just WANT it to say something that it does not.

Nice try. I can read the toilet paper. Why write the law? What is the true purpose here?

Geneva Conventions aren't good enough? They need a nationality? The MCA is a piece of paper. BUT it does allow for torture, prison without cause, and suspense of due process.

UN-Constitutional. Anyone can be labelled an enemy, terrorist, or whatever. They mean that! Its true. It is up to them. Not a law or legal precedent. People are currently being held with their rights being violated including U.S. Citizens. You dont really condone this? Or are you just lockstepping? This is wrong. Quit trying to justify the actions of an obviously terrible President. So what if he is a Republican. That doesn't make all Republicans bad. Dont be so niave.

you obviously haven't read the document for what it says, nor read/view other news for what actually has happened - but instead take biased media's agenda at face value.
good independent research.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. That is from Ben Franklin who knew a thing or two about oppressive government.

You and I have completely different interpretations. I think that less government is better. I also think that the people that wrote it, voted for it, and signed it are not to be trusted.

Ever heard of the contract for America? Pretty good deal. What the hell happened to Conservative values?

The writ should apply. Period. Now go away and go kick puppies elsewhere because your dog is dead.

Just kidding. Your point are duely noted. I hope it works out for the best.
